ABOUT

I can thank the Sex Pistols for my career, for it was upon winning a fellowship to study British punk that I moved to London and began writing professionally. After returning to the States, I spent a half-dozen years covering music and running my own consulting firm before segueing into design journalism. I’ve held senior editorial positions at Metropolis (where I developed the magazine’s Web site into a standalone publication) and Home (where I made green design palatable to a mass audience). Currently I am a contributing editor to Metropolis and Interiors, where I write about architecture, interior design, products, and sustainability; I also cover those subjects for T: the New York Times Style Magazine, Elle, Azure, Wallpaper*, Fast Company, and Architectural Record. In my spare time I co-run Product Placement, a blog and discussion series where designers reveal the inspirations behind an object’s design. I live in New York.
